Cats {Cutest Cat Party}

This cat party at Parents.com must be the cutest ever! I'm not kidding. Pop on over to see decorated cat cups and plates; kitty collars and paws to make for dress-up; balloon cats (see ours above); and a super cat cake! Seriously cute...that's all I can say. :)

Batman Lego Party

A little short of a month ago Big One celebrated his 9th birthday with this special party. Unlike years past, we had a much smaller group and it was mostly family and a few friends that joined us for the afternoon. It was great fun and I really focused on the children and left the adults to chat and eat yummy cake. Deciding on a birthday theme seems to get more difficult as Big One gets older, but the inspiration behind this one was a Lego computer game he received for Christmas. (This Mommy needs a theme to work to!)

This year I opted for cupcakes rather than a cake and made the toppers myself. I used my favourite circle punch (can't live without it!), awesome Batman stickers care of Grandpa, and toothpicks. The party boxes were bought from a local party shop and decorated with plastic bats.  If you are very observant, you may have noticed that the party boxes do not look the same in the two photographs above. The table was all decorated, when Big One said to me "Mommy, there are no polka dots in Batman." I knew he was right and the boxes did look a bit babyish for his age, so with minutes to go, I pulled off the polka dot strips (they were simply cut from wrapping paper). Afterwards I had a giggle...here I am trying to slip in pretty blue polka dot paper into a 9 year old Batman theme! I should really have a girl :).

The games were a huge hit, with the children coming back for more and more.

Georgie's Picks {Cakes}

Today I'm going to combine three things I really love...photography, birthday parties and cakes! Oh, I just LOVE photographing birthday cakes and eating them too, of course! :)

Here are some wonderful cakes that I've photographed over the past year. Wherever I could, I have given credit to the baker (all Cape Town based) and provided the contact information for you.

Don't you just love the use of NikNaks for the Lion's mane!
This was baked by a lovely friend of mine, for her son's second birthday.
(Cezanne bakes beautiful wedding cakes. If you would like to see more, visit her website at designer cakes by Cezanne

This AMAZING Handy Manny cake was baked by The Chocolate Moose.
(Click on the link to view their website and some more amazing cake creations.)

This is the top tier of a very pretty two-tiered fairy cake!

Red, white and blue is one of my favourite colour combinations!
Love this one!

I also love this turtle!  I think the colours of the cake are just awesome against the blue background.

And last, but not least, to view a super Frogs and Polka Dots cake, that was made for Little One's second birthday, click here.

This was so much fun to compile, I think I'll do another some time!
Till next time.

Frogs and Polka Dots {Party Theme}

Little One turned TWO! We were blessed with the most beautiful warm day , which is pretty awesome, considering we are right in the middle of Winter! It meant that we could put the main party table outside on the patio and the little guests could roam around outdoors!

I had the idea to do a Froggy theme for quite some time and I decided to add polka dots for fun...I love polka dots! I bought the paper hats, which I embellished with polka dots cut out with a punch. I also decorated plain paper plates with polka dots (frugal and more personal) and wrapped the juice boxes with paper and ribbon! I had fun turning the green lollipops into little frog faces...I was thinking that one could easily turn these flat lollipops into a variety of things and that this would make a fun craft for the kids. The plastic frogs with sweeties on their backs are soap dishes. What cannot be seen in the pictures, are green and white helium balloons, which were in the center of the table and really finished off the festive feeling perfectly! The party favours were cute rubber bath frogs (two are sitting on top of the cake) and balloons on a stick!

As always it gave me so much joy to see the theme all come together, but the prize was seeing Little One's reaction. As he walked out onto the patio and saw the table for the first time, he gave a small shout and clapped his hands in delight. Made my heart do a little dance!

Last thing to  mention is that the super cake was made by Marleen, who has made 10 cakes for me now over the years (Birthdays and Christenings) and they have always been terrific! So if you live locally and want her contact details, please email me at gsetzer@telkomsa.net

Till next time...

Farmyard Fun!

On a recent Saturday we spent the morning at Gan Eden Nursery and Farm, just outside Durbanville. My lovely friend, Grietjie (Joyful Mama), arranged the outing and it really was terrific. The rain stayed away and we got to spend the morning with cows, feeding pigs, collecting eggs from inside the chicken coop, and chatting to horses!

We also had a tractor ride around the whole farm and after, we had tea, coffee and muffins while the children played on the tractors and swings. I had so much fun showing Little One the animals...up close and personal.

Farm and Survivor parties are offered at Gan Eden and having attended both in the past, I can highly recommend them as party options. The Farm also offers class outings, camping facilities and a function venue. For more information, check out gumbootparties.
