Georgie's Picks {Sorta famous} and a Give Away Challenge update

I've overheard Big One say to some of his friends: "Do you want to be famous? My Mom can put you on her blog. "

That makes me smile.

So Big One thinks he's sorta famous :). This is one of his friends who kinda liked that idea...

:)

And now...did you join me in the Give Away Challenge? How are you doing? Yesterday was Day 20 for me and I have managed to part with 65 things so far.  Things like linen, towels, jewelry, cutlery, crockery, toys and clothes. Tonight I tackle my clothing cupboard, so I know that I'll have lots more to add. If you have also been giving stuff away, please do let me know about your progress.

Till next time.

Georgie's Picks {Cakes II}

Georgie's Picks is a post where I share some of my favourite moments and pictures.

In 2010 I wrote about some cakes...cakes that I was lucky enough to photograph and eat!
Today I'm sharing some more.

When my own little monkey turned one, it seemed perfect to have a Curious George Party. It was a great theme - balloons, bright colours, bubbles and of course lots of little monkeys running around. This cake was baked by Marleen, a lady who has baked many wonderful cakes for me over the years.

Jake and the Never Land Pirates - this amazing cake was baked by

I did a whole post about this Spider Party. This terrific tarantula was also baked by The Chocolate Moose and just in case you are assuming that this was a hard-core boy party - it wasn't!

I love the simplicity and colours of this Beach/Pool Party cake.

The perfect cake for a Soccer Party.

And this one took me way back to my childhood. Did you have a Kewpie Doll? I did - a BIG one - well, she seemed rather big at the time. This is another cake by Marleen, baked for my sister-in-law's baby shower. If you would like Marleen's details, please send me an email.

To view my previous "Cakes" post, click here.

So basically, if you want your cake to be famous (Love and Lollipops type fame)...just invite me to your party and I'll come and eat...I mean photograph it for you and share it here :).

Till next time...

Christmas Shoot

I always try to do a Christmassy shoot of sorts with my boys and my goal this year was to take some happy, peaceful Christmas pics of them both.

Would you ever guess that behind the scenes there was some throwing up and a little bit of blood? Seriously.

Little One managed to gag on a piece of fluff from the Santa hat pom pom - the throwing up part. And, Big one scratched open an old sore (after being pushed off the bed by his little brother!) - the bloody part.

aah yes...the joys of photographing two energetic boys on a bed...with white linen!

Nevertheless...I got these :).

Do you take some special Christmassy photos? Do share.
Till next time.

Georgie's Picks {Little Girls}

"Sugar and spice and all things nice,
that's what little girls are made of."

 This sweetie pie is the daughter of a friend of mine and is also the sweetest little friend to my Little One.

I had the opportunity to photograph her recently in her wonderful back yard. Wish it was mine...it would be so great for photo shoots.

PS. Georgie's Picks is my choice of some favourite pictures I've taken.
      Hope you enjoyed them.

An oldie, but a goodie. Little One, 6 months old,  floating so peacefully in a porter pool. The photo challenge this week at iheartfaces is "Water"...I couldn't resist entering.

Little Mr Brave

I keep promising myself that I'll take part in more iheartfaces photo challenges, so when I saw the theme this week (Let's hear it for the Boys), I decided it's as good a time as any.  And I also thought that this little guy really deserves a special mention right now.

In the past two weeks, we very unexpectedly spent six days in hospital. Little One woke up one morning with a sore leg and I'll spare you a rather long story, but he ended up being hospitalized and having surgery on his hip. The diagnosis...Septic Arthritis. I had never heard of it before.

He really was such a brave little boy, especially having to endure lots of needles. I truly can give testimony that God carried us as a family every day and I am so grateful for all the wonderful support we received. Thank you to all our Angels and Prayer Warriors!

After surgery we were told that he cannot bear weight on his leg for two to three weeks. It's been challenging keeping him "seated", but again, he really has been a star! I taught him how to do a bum shuffle. It's very cute to see him come up the passage, saying "bum shuffle, bum shuffle"...just love him to bits!

iheartfaces is a fantastic website.
If you are a keen photographer, you will love what they have to offer.

My first newborn shoot...

 ...was of this little guy...ahem, I mean puppy :)

And of course this was my favourite photo of the shoot, 'cause of that other cute little dude in the pic!

My neighbours have recently brought home this little pup, called Max. So I popped on over with Little One for a visit and we did a quick impromptu shoot. I'm going to enter this one in the next iheartfaces challenge, which is Best Face of February. If you have never visited iheartfaces and you enjoy photography, you must go and see...

Georgie's Picks {Absolute Joy}

What can be better in the sweltering heat than this?

I have been meaning to post these for awhile - this happy moment took place in December.  As I look at these pictures now, I realize that these are some of my last "in a nappy" pictures of Little One. We started potty training just over two weeks ago and it's been going so well. It's only nappies at night time right now. It makes me extra happy that I captured this!

Tonight I was reading Snapshot in my inbox, a newsletter sent out by Ingrid Owens of CameraShy and she asked, "Why do you take pictures?" She writes that for her it is about sharing beauty. She says that she wants to share the beauty of a moment with others, not to brag, but just to share the joy of the moment. She would like everyone else to SEE what she saw and to FEEL what she felt when she took the picture. I couldn't agree more!

Ingrid's blog is great, especially if you want to learn more about your digital camera and taking better pictures. Do go check it out.

Till next time, happy capturing...

Georgie's Picks {Cakes}

Today I'm going to combine three things I really love...photography, birthday parties and cakes! Oh, I just LOVE photographing birthday cakes and eating them too, of course! :)

Here are some wonderful cakes that I've photographed over the past year. Wherever I could, I have given credit to the baker (all Cape Town based) and provided the contact information for you.

Don't you just love the use of NikNaks for the Lion's mane!
This was baked by a lovely friend of mine, for her son's second birthday.
(Cezanne bakes beautiful wedding cakes. If you would like to see more, visit her website at designer cakes by Cezanne)

This AMAZING Handy Manny cake was baked by The Chocolate Moose.
(Click on the link to view their website and some more amazing cake creations.)

This is the top tier of a very pretty two-tiered fairy cake!

Red, white and blue is one of my favourite colour combinations!
Love this one!

I also love this turtle!  I think the colours of the cake are just awesome against the blue background.

And last, but not least, to view a super Frogs and Polka Dots cake, that was made for Little One's second birthday, click here.

This was so much fun to compile, I think I'll do another some time!
Till next time.

Georgie's Picks {Happy Birthday Little One}

We are celebrating Little One's second birthday this week! So, I thought it only appropriate to share some favourite pictures that I took in late June of this super little guy.

I have taken some of my very favourite pictures of Little One by putting him on to my bed. I open the curtains, pull up the blinds and the light streams in from the right, allowing sufficient light for flash-free photography...just the way I like it. I sit on the floor on my knees and let him roll around and just have fun. Being low down,  I am in a great shooting position. I am at his level (not too low or high) and also in the perfect position to play peekaboo, which of course gets wonderful smiles and giggles. In these particular shots, Granny happened to arrive, so his attention was drawn to the outside and as you can see by these happy faces, Granny was being very funny!

Although the first and last picture are much brighter (which I prefer), these were all taken at the same time, only my position changed.

Happy Birthday Little One!! Love you!!!!!!

Georgie's Picks #2

After the very cold weather here in Cape Town, we have been having some lovely sunny winter days (my favourite kind). Father's Day was one of these. We spent the day with family and in the afternoon we all took a stroll to the nearby park. That's where I took these pics of my beautiful niece, who is just wonderfully calm and poised in front of a camera.

Thank you gorgeous girl for always being such an amazing model for me!

Georgie's Picks

I recall a few years ago my niece drawing a picture of the whole family. She included grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins. Everyone was in it. Everyone that is, except for me. When my sister-in-law asked her where Auntie Georgia was, she replied, "She's taking the picture!" That's where I usually am, taking the picture.

I have been taking photographs of friends and family for years now, but it has always been in a rather informal way. Last year however, I attached some pictures of Little One to a letter that I wrote to the Your Baby magazine (www.yourparenting.co.za). To my surprise, the editor loved my pictures (and Little One of course) and the photographs inspired a cover! Little One was the cover baby in March this year. This vote of confidence is just what I needed and so my photography turned into something a little more serious. In 2009 Georgie Girl Photography was born. I really consider myself to still be a student and I charge accordingly.

Georgie's Picks will be a new regular feature, where I will pick some of my favourite pics and share them with you. For starters, I thought I would share some pics that inspired a cover. Enjoy.
