Colour Fun #5 - A Colour Car Play Mat

Little One loves playing with cars and so I thought this would be a fun and novel way to teach colours and to match-up colours. I made the play mat out of cardboard (a big cereal box) and covered it with a piece of black cardboard and then covered that with colour squares. Simple!

I plan on leaving it out next to his cars and occasionally modelling  the cars parking in the correctly matched parking spaces. If you do make this for your little one, please come back and tell me how it was received.

PS. I am linking this to It's Playtime, Tot Tuesdays @ My Delicious Ambiguity and ABC and 123 Show and Tell.

I saw the feature on ABC and 123 and fell in love with it immediately. My son LOVES cars and LOVES to park them in parking lots. I just finished doing this for him and posted about it here.

Mine is made from fabric instead of paper because I knew he'd want to play with it a lot and that the paper wouldn't hold up for him. Thanks for such a BRILLIANT idea!

I made the play mat today for my 20 month old little girl who also likes to play with cars. She played with it when she woke up from her afternoon nap and brought it to dinner at a friend's house tonight so she could share it with her three-year-old son.

Two things I did differently: used a similar size piece of cork flooring I found in the garage and used Mod Podge to seal it.

Thanks for sharing your creativity...another fun idea off of my to do list!

Love this idea. I'm getting ready to have my first boy and so am collecting as many fun boy activities as I can. Your blog's photography is beautiful, by the way!

I made this on my 12 x 12 printer. My son loved it and has used it everyday this week. It is usually the first tray he chooses to play with. I included it in my blog today if you'd like to take a look. http://1mommysjourney.weebly.com/1/post/2011/11/workbox-wednesday.html

thanks for posting it is a great idea!!

Thank you for this idea. I cannot wait to make this for my little tot. I have been looking for ways to entertain him and help him learn at the same time while I homeschool his brother. Thanks.

Hi! I absolutely love your idea! I can't wait to create my own. I am thinking about incorporating it into the felt road set I created for my daughter!

We featured you in a post we did on several more do-it-yourself toy car ideas.
